The planning phaseis one of the first steps in transforming a school intoa Learning Community.
This is the moment whenthe entire educational community collectively envisions the ideal school they wish to build, without any initial limits or constraints.
The model was developed by the CREA group at the University of Barcelona as part of the Learning Communities project.
What is the sleep phase?
During this phase:
Students, teachers, families, non-teaching staff, and volunteers are participating.
Each group answers questions such as:
- What would the school of our dreams be like?
- What kind of learning do we want?
- How would we like to live together?
- All proposals are accepted without censorship or budgetary constraints.
- The dreams of all sectors are shared and brought together.
It is a time ofexcitement, participation, and collective effort.
What is it for?
- Fostermotivation and commitment.
- Give a voice to the entire community.
- Establish ashared vision.
- Let’s move beyond the notion that change depends solely on teachers or school administrators.
After the dream…
This phase is followed by other stages, such as:
- Prioritizing dreams(selecting the most relevant and feasible ones).
- Planning.
- Implementation of successful educational approaches(such as discussion groups or interactive groups).
In short, the dream phase is the emotional and democratic starting point for the center’s transformation: first we dream together, then we build together.
